Pneumonia is a leading killer of children under age five. Breath counting is a burden for community health workers and studies have shown that it is not always accurate.
The ChARM device provides quick and accurate pneumonia diagnosis for children under 5 in low-resource settings. The device removes human error and provides consistent, objective results for improved clinical decision-making. Able to withstand extreme temperatures, ChARM can operate effectively regardless of the conditions and environmental challenges. It also resists water and dust. The device is an affordable, accessible, and scalable solution in remote or low-resource areas.
The device corresponds to IMCI guidelines (WHO's Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) and can be adjusted to the age of the child. By strapping the device comfortably around a child's chest, the accelerometer in the device acts to measure breath rate. An algorithm in the device determines whether the breathing rate is too fast or normal, and a light signals red or green as a 'no' or 'yes' signal for pneumonia.
By deploying an automated respiratory rate measurement device, we remove the burden of manual counting for healthcare workers and ensure better (and faster) pneumonia classification.
The ChARM is CE-marked.
Safety Compliance with the following standares: IEC 60601-1 Ed. 3.1; IEC 60601-1-1-2 Ed 4; IEC 60601-1-11 Ed. !.
ChARM is battery-operated (rechargeable) and does not require internet connectivity, making it ideal for use in low-resource settings. Each charge yields enough power for 200 diagnoses in the field.
Visual feedback guides clinical decisions, with color codes for quick assessment: green indicates no pneumonia, while red signals pneumonia.
