The Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1/2 (HIV1/2) Antibody Test is a rapid and convenient immunochromatographic assay used for the qualitative detection of antibodies against HIV type 1 and type 2 in human serum, plasma or blood sample.
HIV transmission in pregnancy is of global importance. Without treatment, risk of vertical transmission ranges from 15-45%. With treatment, rates drop to around 2%.
The CDC recommends that all pregnant women are tested for HIV during their first prenatal visit. Testing is recommended for other at-risk populations as well.
This rapid test is approved for use in Latin America, Europe, Canada, Africa and Asia, but not yet in the U.S.
