The HIV, HBsAg & HCV is a combination rapid test for assessing these three infections diseases (Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV). The test is an immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of HBsAg, HCV antibodies and/or HIV1/2 virus- antibodies, respectively, in human serum or plasma samples. It is intended for professional use as an aid in diagnosing HCV, HIV, and/or HBV infections.
Hepatitis B during pregnancy increases the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, and hemorrhage. Without treatment, the odds of passing the infection to the baby are as high as 95%. However, babies born to Hepatitis B positive mothers are vaccinated after birth which is a highly effective method of treatment. While the rates of transmission are lower, Hepatitis C is also highly transmittable.
Transmission of HIV from mother to child is common but also highly preventable. Without treatment, risk of vertical transmission ranges from 15-45%. With treatment, rates drop to around 2%.
The CDC recommends screening of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV in all pregnant women, as well as other at-risk populations.
This rapid test is available for use by clinicians and organizations in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Canada and Africa, but not yet in the United States.
