Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV Test

The HIV, HBsAg and HCV is a combination rapid test for assessing these three infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C). Cost-effective and easy to read at the point of care, this cassette test assesses co-infections allowing rapid testing and treatment of three diseases at one time.

  • Double sandwich immunochromatographic assay
  • Can be used with serum or plasma samples
  • Results ready in 10-20 minutes

THE PROBLEM

Hepatitis B during pregnancy increases the risk of premature birth, low birth weight, and hemorrhage. Without proper treatment, the odds of passing the infection to the baby are as high as 95%. However, babies born to Hepatitis B-positive mothers are vaccinated after birth which is a highly effective method of treatment. While the rates of transmission are lower, Hepatitis C is also highly transmittable. Transmission of HIV from mother to child is common but also highly preventable. Without treatment, risk of vertical transmission ranges from 15%-45%. With treatment, rates drop to around 2%.

THE SOLUTION

The HIV, HBsAg and HCV is a combination rapid test for assessing these three infectious diseases: Hep B, Hep C and HIV. The test is a double sandwich immunochromatographic assay for the qualitative detection of HBsAg antigens, HCV antibodies and/or HIV 1/2 virus antibodies in human serum or plasma samples for the purpose of professional use as an aid in diagnosing Hep B, Hep C, and/or HIV infections, respectively. The CDC recommends screening of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV in all pregnant women, as well as other at-risk populations. This rapid test is available for use by clinicians and organizations in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Canada and Africa, but not yet in the United States.

To test, a sample of serum or plasma is added to the sample well of the test device. The test works by detectingHBsAg antigens, HCV antibodies and/or HIV 1/2 virus antibodies in the sample as it flows through the assay by first,HBsAg antibodies, HCV antigens and HIV 1/2 virus antigens conjugated with colloidal gold that attach toHBsAg antigens, HCV antibodies and HIV 1/2 virus antibodies and provide a “visual tag” for the antigen-antibody-colloidal gold complex and second, by three separate test lines - one with immobilizedHBsAg antibodies, one with immobilizedHCV antigens, andone with immobilizedHIV 1/2 virus antigens- that capture the relevant antigen-antibody-colloidal gold complex. When a test line becomes concentrated with antibodies, the concentrated visual tag produces a visible pink-colored band that is confirmation of the presence of the target molecule (HBsAg antigens, HCV antibodies and/or HIV 1/2 virus antibodies). The presence of a colored band/pink line indicates a positive result for the given infection. Results are ready in 10-20 minutes.
