The Problem
Amidst an opioid epidemic the ability to test for fentanyl is an important harm reduction tool. In 2021, more than 60,000 people in the U.S. ages 15 to 54 died from opioid-involved overdose. As stated by the NIH, "expanding access to innovative, inexpensive, and easy-to-use drug-checking technologies where not prohibited by law may be able to play a pivotal role to help keep people safe, whether at home or in public." Fentanyl poses a risk to pregnant persons, and it crosses the placenta causing harm to the fetus.
The Solution
The Maternova Fentanyl Rapid test is a visual immunoassay. The test can be used to test human urine to determine the presence of fentanyl with a cutoff concentration of 1.0 ng/mL. The test can also be used to test a drug or other substance for the presence of fentanyl.
