Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It can be transmitted during pregnancy and delivery as well. THE SOLUTION
The CE-marked Syphilis rapid test is a quick and convenient antibody-capture immunochromatographic assay used for the qualitative detection of antibodies against Treponema pallidum (TP), the bacteria that causes syphilis, in human serum, plasma or whole blood samples. It is intended for professional use as an aid in diagnosis of syphilis.
To test, a sample of whole blood, serum or plasma is added to the sample well of the test (if using whole blood, an assay buffer is added to the sample well afterwards). The test works by detecting TP antibodies in the sample as it flows through the assay by first TP antigens conjugated with colloidal gold that attach to TP antibodies and provide a “visual tag” for the antigen-antibody-colloidal gold complex and second, by a test zone with immobilized antigens that capture the complex, the visual tags producing a visible pink-colored band that is confirmation of the presence of TP antibodies and a positive result for syphilis. If there is no pink line, TP antibodies are not present, indicating a negative result for syphilis. Results are ready in 10 minutes.
