UTI Culture Test

-

  • Sample is cultured, grown and examined under a 100x microscope, all on the same device.
  • The sample grows in 18-24 hours with red color indicating  E. coli and other colors, other strains.
  • Entire cassette can be placed directly on the microscope tray for observation through the device's clear anti-fog window.

THE PROBLEM

Urinary tract infections are common, causing a burning sensation and pelvic pain.  An estimated 150 million people worldwide are diagnosed with a UTI each year. Left undiagnosed, a UTI can progress to sepsis, or severe infection.  The infection can lead to and is also associated with preeclampsia, proteinuria, mother-to-child transmission of syphilis, lowbirth weights and spontaneous abortion.  Although an estimated 50 percent or more of women will have a UTI,  local culturing ability for diagnosis remains uncommon in many settings.  At the same time, misdiagnosed UTIs result in an overuse of antibiotics and thus resulting antibiotic resistance.

THE SOLUTION

Our unique cassettes allow a urinary tract or stool sample to be cultured, grown and looked at under a 100x microscope, all on the same device. Once inoculated, no other culture preparation is required resulting in time and cost savings. Different potential pathogens are grown quickly (24-72 hours at room temperature) and can be tracked with the naked eye by color or under the microscope. The entire cassette rests directly on the microscope for analysis.  The chromogenic media makes it easy to culture and removes the variation that can occur across staff in microbiology labs.

E. coli

Enterococcus

Klebsiella

Enterobacter

Proteus

Pseudomonas

S. aureus

S. saprophyticus
