  • Procalcitonin Rapid Test for signs of sepsis

    -

The Procalcitonin (PCT) Test is a NEW, rapid and convenient test used for detection of human Procalcitonin in serum or plasma. Procalcitonin is a highly specific biomarker of severe bacterial infection and sepsis. The point of care test is available in cassette format and is a way to assess sepsis in women around the time of childbirth.

    • Antigen-capture immunochromatographic assay
    • Comes with reference card to read concentration of PCT
    • Results ready in 30 minutes

    THE PROBLEM

Sepsis is one of the three leading causes of death and morbidity around the time of childbirth. Sepsis is defined as a multi-organ inflammatory response due to bacterial infection. The etiology of sepsis may be from an infection during pregnancy, from Group A strep, from an injury during childbirth or due to a range of factors after childbirth (called puerperal sepsis). Miscarriages, prolonged labor, mastitis, c-sections and other interventions that expose women to increased risk of infection may be associated with sepsis. Having rapid markers of sepsis is an important research and diagnostic tool for the women's health community and beyond.

    THE SOLUTION

The Procalcitonin Rapid Test is a rapid and convenient antigen-capture immunochromatographic assay for the semi-quantitative detection of human procalcitonin (PCT) in serum or plasma at or above the level of 0.5 ng/ml. PCT concentrations are elevated in infection. Rising in response to a proinflammatory stimulus, PCT concentration is an important indicator of severity of the disease. It is intended for professional use as an aid in the diagnosis and controlling the treatment of severe bacterial infection and sepsis.

To test, a sample of plasma or serum is added to the sample well of the test. The test works by detecting PCT in the plasma or serum sample as it flows through the assay by first PCT antibodies conjugated with colloidal gold that attach to the PCT and provide a “visual tag” for the antigen-antibody-colloidal gold complex and second, by a test zone with immobilized antibodies that capture the complex, the visual tags producing a visible pink-colored band that is confirmation of the presence of PCT. The color intensity of the band is proportionate to the PCT concentration of the sample and a reference card is given to estimate the concentration level. Results are ready in 30 minutes.

MOQ is 1000 and these are not for sale within the USA.
