Last Update: July 06, 2011

On April 5, 2011, the AYZH poster received honorable mention at the World Health Care Congress.

AYZH, a social venture looking through the eyes of women to identify the tools they want and need to help improve their standard of living, offers an inexpensive clean birth kit that helps reduce the incidence of neonatal and maternal infection and sepsis. The Janma Clean Birth Kit targets the “six cleans” recognized by the WHO: clean hands, clean perineum, clean delivery surface, clean cord cutting and tying instruments, and clean cutting surface. The kits are sourced and assembled in India by rural women to create economic opportunities for communities living in poverty. The packaging is biodegradable. AYZH’s initial target market is Tamil Nadu, India, where three million rural women live in poverty and lack access to a clean birth environment. The kit includes the following items:

  • A sterile surface.
  • Sterilizing hand wipes.
  • Clamps for the umbilical cord.
  • Scalpel blade and handle for cutting the umbilical cord
