This proposed device is a hypertension detector for relatively unskilled health workers. JHPIEGO's idea is to make detection of high blood pressure, a symptom of preeclampsia, a yes/no answer. The device will be hand-crankable, the output will be a simple red or green light and the machinery will be essentially a microcontroller that uses oscillemetry to detect blood pressure.
