Home Phototherapy Unit

Last Update: January 11, 2013

The home phototherapy treatment developed in Iran is a small, portable device that can be used to treat jaundice in newborns at home. Phototherapy is a common method used to eliminate bilirubin in the blood of babies with severe jaundice. The light waves that are absorbed into blood vessels transform the bilirubin into a safer product. Traditional phototherapy treatments are done in hospitals with large, expensive equipment. The home phototherapy treatment designed by Ehsan Dargazy is small, foldable, and easy to use by any caregiver. The treatment allows newborns to receive phototherapy treatment at home near their mothers instead of staying at a hospital to receive treatment. The device has a timer for treatment duration monitoring, a cooling system, an alarm, and four folding legs.
