Super Cereal is a fortified blended food preferred to treat moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) in young children and in pregnant and lactating women.

THE PROBLEM
Moderate acute malnutrition affects children through a process called wasting, a condition thought to affect one in ten children in low-income or developing countries. Evidence shows that children with MAM (WHZ ≥ −3 and <−2 and/or MUAC ≥11.5 and <12.5 cm) are at higher risk of mortality, morbidity. Over the last several decades, researchers have proven the need for higher energy and more nutrient dense foods should be consumed to improve nutritional status and meet energy and nutrient requirements of young, malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women.
THE SOLUTION
Super Cereal is a specific fortified blended flour tailored for young children aged 6 months – 2 years to complement breastmilk, children age 2-5 and pregnant and lactating women. Super Cereal is prepared from heat treated corn (sometimes wheat is used as the base of the flour) and de-hulled soybeans, and a premix of vitamins and minerals. In most feeding programs, a porridge is made with the SuperCereal and boiled water and served with oil as part of the ration (75 grams flour + 22.4 grams oil). Nutritionally, it is high in fat and protein, containing both animal and vegetable proteins. This vitamin and mineral profile promotes cognitive development and growth, strengthens the immune system and reduces the occurrence of blindness.
The product is to be used as a complement to breastfeeding. The product is NOT a breastmilk replacement.
NOTE: Super Cereal Plus is a different product from Super Cereal. We can supply either product but must be very clear about the population to be fed. Super Cereal is a corn soy supplementary blend that is meant for children over 5 years old up to adults. When mixed Super Cereal creates a porridge.
