HIV 1/2 Rapid Test

HIV1/2 Antibody Test is a rapid, convenient and cost-effective cassette test for the qualitative detection of antibodies against HIV type 1 and type 2. The test allows point of care testing by community health workers and frontline providers with high sensitivity and specificity.

  • Antibody-capture immunochromatographic assay
  • Can be used with whole blood, serum, or plasma samples
  • Results ready in 10 minutes

THE PROBLEM

HIV 1 is the most common type of HIV that is affecting around 95% people around the world who are living with HIV. HIV 2 is harder to transmit but they are both transmitted by direct contact with bodily fluids that contain the virus such as blood, sexual fluids, and breast milk. Sub-Saharan Africa is the most affected area, with 1 in every 25 adults living with HIV. According to Avert , in sub-Saharan Africa, four in five new infections are among girls aged 15–19 years and young women aged 15–24 years are twice as likely to be living with HIV as men. In the absence of proper treatment, the mother-to-child transmission rate through pregnancy, labour, delivery and breastfeeding is between 15% and 45%. However, with antiretroviral treatment (ART), rates drop to around 2%.

THE SOLUTION

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1/2 (HIV1/2) Antibody Test is a rapid, cost-effective

and convenient antibody-capture immunochromatographic assay used for the qualitative detection of antibodies against HIV type 1 and type 2 in human serum, plasma or whole blood samples. The CDC recommends that all pregnant women are tested for HIV during their first prenatal visit. Testing is recommended for other at-risk populations as well. HIV 1/2 rapid test is approved for use in Latin America, Europe, Canada, Africa and Asia, but not yet in the U.S. These tests are WHO pre-qualified.

To test, a sample of whole blood, serum or plasma is added to the sample well of the test device. The test works by detecting HIV 1/2 antibodies in the sample as it flows through the assay by first, HIV 1/2 antigens conjugated with colloidal gold that attach to HIV 1/2 antibodies and provide a “visual tag” for the antigen-antibody-colloidal gold complex and second, by a test zone with immobilized HIV 1/2 antigens that capture the complex, the visual tags producing a visible pink-colored band that is confirmation of the presence of HIV 1/2 antibodies and a positive result for HIV (does not differentiate between HIV-1 and HIV-2). If there is no pink line,HIV 1/2 antibodies are not present, indicating a negative result for HIV. Results are ready in 10 minutes.

Minimum order: 500 tests
