Hemoglobinometer (Point of Care)

-

This simple-to-operate, evidence-based hemoglobinometer allows rapid, point-of-care detection of anemia in children or adults.

  • Quantitative measurement of hemoglobin concentration in 2 minutes or less
  • Available a non-invasive or finger-stick of blood
  • Powered by battery for extended use

THE PROBLEM

Anemia detection is an important part of prenatal (or antenatal) care. With iron deficiency anemia being the most common form of anemia, much research has focused on this form. Major causes of anemia include hemoglobinopathies, malaria, TB, HIV and micronutrient deficiencies. Anemia, particularly in the first trimester, has been linked to premature birth in pregnant women.  In children anemia is associated withnegative short-term impact on physical growth and cognitive development.  In the absence of a sensitive and specific way to detect anemia,  it can be difficult for practitioners or midwives to identify women with this deficiency and suggest appropriate supplements and planning for childbirth in the event of hemorrhage.

THE SOLUTION

Point-of-care anemia detection allows a diagnosis of anemia from a drop of blood or, alternatively, through a non-invasive reading (no blood stick).  Measures of hemoglobin concentration in the blood sample allow the determination of mild, moderate or severe anemia.  The hemoglobinometers offered by Maternova Inc. have been compared to the gold standard laboratory references.  The point-of-care hemoglobinometers have high sensitivity and specificity and can be used in the field or in the clinic to assess levels of anemia.
