These squeeze pouches combine a nutritional solution with clean water in two connected pouches to meet the WHO F-75 formula criteria. The two halves are mixed together at the point of use, and the child is fed through a nozzle that is part of the packaging.
Severe acute malnutrition (SAM), which is defined as severe wasting, bilateral oedema, or very low mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), affects approximately 19 million children under five years of age worldwide and kills 400,000 children every year. Additionally, more than 2 billion people, including children, do not have access to clean drinking water. Drinking unclean water can lead to or exacerbate malnutrition.
The combined burden of lack of access to nutritional food and clean water, which is especially seen in disaster settings, means it can be difficult for children to recover from severe acute malnutrition. While separate solutions exist for both these issues, there are no solutions that address both issues in one product.
The F-75 therapeutic pediatric milk is an infant and child nutrition solution for humanitarian settings that addresses multiple issues faced in these settings:
The product is tailored for children 6-60 months and is based on the WHO guidelines for a F-75 formulation, treatment for the initial stabilization stage of malnutrition management. A severely malnourished child that presents with complications, severe edema, or poor appetite should be fed the product immediately and until stabilized (couple of days). Decades of research have shown that a child suffering from severe acute malnutrition needs lower amounts of protein and sodium and lower amounts of fat in the early stage of recovery. The child is then switched to the F-100 formulation for the rehabilitation phase of recovery.
By providing both a nutritional solution and clean water, the pediatric milk addresses two issues that together threaten the health and lives of children around the globe.
The F-75 dual pouches contain 40g powder with 160ml water. The powder is scientifically formulated considering the gut is not working optimally. Additionally, it is the only whey-dominant feed that is also lactose-free, and it is low disaccharide with a very low osmolality.
