A 2011 case study describing the entire [SELCO evolution and business model is available here] (http://www.growinginclusivemarkets.org/media/cases/India_SELCO_2011.pdf). The study mentions the way that the solar headlamp was designed.
These midwives' headlamps were designed by SELCO and SEWA in Ahmenabad, India. The headlamps light the midwives' path to home births and allow them to see deliveries that occur at night. One description of the traditional practice before the headlamps were introduced described a husband shining a mirror through a hole in the wall--to reflect the light from another room.
