Tommy’s, a UK-based organization that funds research on pregnancy problems, has developed a simple saliva test for predicting preterm labor. Tommy’s has filed a patent on the test. If validated in a larger study, the test could predict which women may go into labor too early, allowing for intervention to prevent preterm labor, such as progesterone supplementation.
