Proteinuria Self-Test for Early Detection of Pre-Eclampsia

Still In Development Last Update: January 11, 2013

Jhpiego has collaborated with the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering, Innovation, and Design to create the “proteinuria pen,” an affordable self-test to detect pre-eclampsia. Jhpiego was awarded $100,000 from USAID's Department of Innovation to refine the design of the proteinuria self-test device. Jhpiego plans to pilot the device in rural Nepal to assess its acceptability and feasibility for use by community health workers and pregnant women.
