Insecticide-treated bednets are an effective means of combating malaria worldwide. However, insecticide resistance is emerging as a serious public health crisis—and technologies must be updated to meet this challenge.

For this reason, Vestergaard Frandsen has developed a new version of its Permanet® bednets—verstion 3.0, “the world’s first new generation long-lasting insecticidal net (LN) that has increased efficacy against pyrethroid-resistant malaria vectors.” (http://www.vestergaard-frandsen.com/permanet/permanet-3)

Vestergaard Frandsen recently donated 2500 bednets in Côte d'Ivoire in partnership with Canadian NGO Right to Play and Chelsea Football Club. The bednets will be distributed in star footballer Didier Drogba’s hometown. (http://www.rbm.who.int/globaladvocacy/eventsarchive2011.html#VFdonates)

PermaNet® bednets and curtains are both insecticide-treated tools.  Used in a home or a clinic, these solutions prevent two different types of mosquitos from transmitting malaria and dengue.  Pregnant women have increased vulnerability to malaria, especially in 1st and 2nd pregnancies.  This product is on the market. Go to the Vestergaard-Frandsen website for more information.
