MgSO4 is a basic compound called magnesium sulfate. It is effective in treating and managing preeclampsia and eclampsia, a common cause of maternal death in lower-income settings where treatment is not given at the community level. Ironically, this compound is so inexpensive that in many places it is not used or manufactured because the incentives are so low. We are interested in following stories of places where MgSO4 production was instituted successfully and distribution to midwives and others actually increased.
