FloSeal Gel for PPH

Last Update: April 16, 2012
Floseal, "postpartum hemorrhage", "maternal mortality"

FloSealâ„¢ is a gel rather than a gauze and it conforms to hard to reach spaces and surfaces. The gel can be squirted into an area that is uncontrollably oozing blood, and it acts in two minutes to help coagulation. There is one case report of this product being used in an obstetric hemorrhage when all else failed. In an article in the esteemed British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, FloSealâ„¢ is used in an extreme case of postpartum hemorrhage post-hysterectomy. This case was the first time that the product was reported in use during an obstetric emergency.

Note that this has not been widely tested and thus Maternova does not specifically recommend this or any other innovation other than those that we sell in our products list. Rather, it is placed in the Innovation Index as a potentially useful new material for treating postpartum hemorrhage.
