D-tree: clinical algorithims for labor on a phone

Still In Development Last Update: January 11, 2013

D-tree International is programming clinical algorithms onto handheld phones & computers.  They are tackling what few in the maternal health field have tried-- algorithms to help health workers assess and provide care to pregnant women who arrive in labor. The clinical protocol will assess whether the pregnant patient in labor appears to be progressing normally and whether any specific interventions, emergency or otherwise, are needed at any given point of time during the labor and delivery process. The D-tree algorithim is programmed into the basic mobile phone, leveraging the phone as a mini-computer, but not requiring phone or broadband connectivity.
