D-rev deal with Phoenix is covered in Fast Company.

In case of blackout, it can be run off a battery back-up (the size of a car battery) for up to 8 hours.

Brilliance is scheduled to launch in India August 2011!

The Brilliance team won one of the transition grants from the Saving Lives at Birth Grand Challenge. The Brilliance device is on casters and is meant for hospitals but a second device in the Brilliance family, called Comet, is being developed for clinics. This smaller, more lightweight device is meant to clip onto a bassinet.

D-Rev is creating a phototherapy device that uses low cost LED light to treat jaundice in newborns. The therapeutic device is called Brilliance (previously its working title was Blue Star) and it will cost around $100. The device works by using light to break down abnormally high concentrations of bilirubin in the infant. The NGO D-Rev notes that in its tests, this device actually outperforms the $3000 gold standard in the West. D-Rev announced in its blog that they had "reached an unprecedented licensing agreement with Chennai, India-based Phoenix Medical Systems Private Ltd. for the manufacturing and distribution of Brilliance." They further note that "This deal marks the first time that an American nonprofit will receive licensing fees and royalties for its technology from an Indian for-profit company in the healthcare space."
