Bililight is a phototherapy unit developed by students from North Carolina State University used to treat newborn jaundice. The blue light helps break down bilirubin, allowing it to be execreted from the body. The newborn's eyes are covered to protect them from the bright light. The designers plan to pretest the device in Africa and in Central America.
