"Baby Monitor"- Making Moms in Developing Countries End Users of mHealth

"A cellular signal is more likely to reach their home than a community health worker". - Eric Green, Population Council

In the days after birth, both mothers and babies experience a range of symptoms that can indicate healthy development and recovery, or can indicate a problem. The "Baby Monitor" program, a collaboration of the Population Council and InSTEDD, is creating a mobile platform that makes mothers the end users of an mHealth algorithm. The system calls with screening questions similar to those asked by a doctor at a post-natal visit, and based on the responses, the system either sends additional information, makes a referral, or even deploys a health worker to the home.
